TTAADC seeks change in nomenclature

North East News Agency

A change in the nomenclature of the TTAADC, introduction of inner line permit, increase of seats to 36 from the present 30 and direct fund allocation for the ADC are the demands of the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura
ruling the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

The demands were made to the Centre in view of the proposed amendment Bill on the Sixth Schedule. The ruling party in the ADC, in a recent letter to G. K. Pillai, Union Joint Secretary, Home Affairs, proposed to change the name of Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council to “Borok Autonomous Council of Tripura”, after Mr. Pillai had sought TTAADC’s comments on the proposed Bill.

In that letter to the Joint Secretary, Chief Executive Member of the TTAADC Kripa Mohan Reang said, “The proposed amendment Bill does not provide for inner-line permit regulation in the TTAADC areas of the
State though the Chief Executive Members requested for including the Inner-Line Permit provision, during the discussion held on 23 July, 1999 by the Govt of India.”
