Cellular connections in NE by Aug 15, 2003 Over 50,800 cellular phone connections would be given in six North-Eastern states by August 15 next year. Announcing this, V Krishnakumar, chief general manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), circle one and two, said that in the circle one, comprising Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, 19,900 cellphone connection would be given while it would be 30,900 for circle two comprising Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Necessary survey to provide cellphone service would be completed by March next year. Under the Gramin Sanchar Sevak programme, 46 villages of these six states would be covered very soon. Under this programme, a postman would carry a mobile telephone and willing villagers would be able to make calls to the required person from this telephone.
