Kukis urged PM to restore peace in Assam’s Karbi Anglong
Manipur-based Kuki Movement For Human Rights (KMFHR) has urged Prime Minister A B Vajpayee to intervene and stop unabated killings of innocent Kukis and Karbis in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. In a memorandum to the Prime Minister on December 5, the KMFHR said the killings and razing of houses of Kukis and Karbis were outcome of rivalry between two extremists groups Kuki revolutionary Army and United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS anti-talk faction). The KMFHR memo claimed that so far 25 Kukis including students had been killed in the recent weeks and urged the Prime Minister to immediately intervene and stop the ‘massacre’ of innocent civilians.
