THE North-East pavilion, which participated in the India International Trade Fair (IITF) for the first time, has won gold medal in the Public Sector Unit category. As many as 26 participants from eight states of the region put up their stalls in the pavilion under the aegis of the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) with support from North Eastern Council both constituents of the Department for Development of the North Eastern Region (DONER). The North East pavilion bagged the gold medal edging out nearly 300 PSUs. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was awarded the silver medal at the end of the 14-day fair. The products which were showcased in the North-East pavilion included Assam tea, muga shirts and umbrellas, dry flowers, traditional handloom items, sikkimese shoes, carpets from Arunachal and modern terracotta items. Assam had set up maximum (11) stalls in the pavilion. The pavilion won the first prize for its uniqueness and
the wide array of products, which were on display during the past fortnifght.
The products on display were unique, not available in Delhi and other North
Indian markets. The response was overwhelming and NEDFi had also received
orders from foreign customers. The total turnover in the last two weeks had
been Rs 52 lakh. The participants were chosen from the ‘NEDfi Haat’ in
Guwahati. Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura bagged gold and silver medals
respectively in the North Eastern states category. There were 7,000
participants and 44 delegations from 28 countries in this edition of IITF.
First ever North Eastern exposition in Kolkata In an efforrt to promote the
region, the representatives of eight North-Eastern states in Kolkata
organised exposition at Swabhumi, in the city, under the banner of
NEXPO-2003. The Department of Development of North-Eastern Region (DONER)
was the main sponsor while the tea board and the Indian Chamber of Commerce
are the co-sponsors of the event, which would continue till December 11. The
seven-day event included exhibition-cum-sale of handloom and handicraft
products of all the North-Eastern states besides cultural programmes and
fashion shows. The aim of exposition is to attract investors. |
