Tripura Govt announces devp. package for SC, OBC and minorities

In an effort to uplift the Scheduled Castes (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and religious minorities, the Tripura Government has announced a special economic and development package for them.

Of the 33-point package, 15 are for the SC, 10 for OBC and eight for religious minorities. 16 per cent of the state’s total 3.2 million population belong to the SC, 24 per cent to OBC, while eight per cent are religious minorities, which includes Muslims (7.5 per cent). The package would be implemented by 2007. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has announced the package after successful implementation of the previous 44-point development package, announced in January 27, 2000. The new package includes education schemes, health services, infrastructure development in the backward and interior areas, economic uplift and development of arts and culture.
