Mizoram to ban chemical fertilizers, pesticides THE Mizoram Government has decided to ban use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides in order to encourage organic production. Announcing at the inauguration ceremony of the weeklong North Eastern Exposition (NOXPO) in Kolkata on December 5, Mizoram Governor A R Kohli said the proposal would be legalised in the next Assembly session. The effort would be beneficial for the state which is blessed with flora and fauna of all varieties and help to project itself as a state producing organic products in an age when there is huge demand for products not processed with chemicals. The State produces a wide variety of fruits like bananas, guavas among others and spices like cardamoms. The enactment of the decision will enable it to produce world-class products.
