Apang denies meeting NSCN leaders in Bangkok Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has denied reports that he had met NSCN(IM) leaders during his recent visit to Bangkok. Denying
reports that Apang visited Bangkok to meet NSCN (IM) leaders, a statement
from the Chief Minister’s office said,’’ in fact, Apang visited Bangkok on a
private purpose with due permission from the Prime Minister’s Office.’’ ‘’It
was his long-pending proposal to visit some of the Buddhist temples in
Thailand ... due to his faith and regard towards Buddhist culture and
religion as well, Apang was invited to Bangkok by Rev Pharpisantathom of
Thavornchittathavaro-Wongmalai Foundation for a visit to the Buddhist
temples,’’ it said. The statement said, ‘’Apang has nothing to do with
Centre’s peace process. It is a delicate issue and has been dealt with by
the Government of India.’’ On reports that the Chief Minister’s son Omak
Apang, former Union Minister of State for Tourism, was based in Bangkok, the
statement said, he (Omak) has been engaged in social work. He is Vice
President of an international NGO based in America. Presently, he is
working on a project on World Youth Peace Summit for which he visits its
Bangkok office.’’ |
