Fencing of Indo-Bangla border opposed

Apprehensive of losing more than 1,000 acres of land, the Riwar Mihngi Development Committee (RMDC) has strongly opposed the fencing of Indo-Bangla border. The RMDC also demanded immediate payment of compensation for those affected in the devastating hailstorm of 2000, in which crops worth more than Rs 1 crore were destroyed. The committee, however, requested the Centre to open border hats so that the people can sell their agricultural products easily.

Riwar Mihngi in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya has three legislative constituencies and three development blocks with a population of about 70,000.
