urged to find alternate job avenues

Governor, while addressing the joblessness faced by the youth stresses
upon the need for job-oriented education in State universities.

Governor Lt Gen (Retd.) S. K. Sinha called upon the youth to look for
alternate employment opportunities, other than Government services. At the
same time, he stressed on the need for ‘job-oriented’ education in
Universities of the State as well as the region.
While inaugurating the symposium on ‘Knowledge Management ‑-
paradigm shift in business’ organised jointly by Tezpur University and
NECCI, the Governor opined that there should be regular interaction
between the industry and the Universities and urged for proper management
of knowledge as there had been explosion of knowledge in the current
century, for its fruitful exploitation.
Vice-Chancellor of the Tezpur University, Prof P Bhattacharyya urged the
industry to recruit more and more management trainees through campus
interviews. He proudly informed that products of the Tezpur University had
succeeded in carving a niche for themselves in their respective fields. He
further informed that Chicago University in the United States had
appreciated the quality of management science courses in the Tezpur
University on the basis of the performance of a former student of the
university now studying in the US varsity. The Vice-Chancellor stated that
the industry, which is getting products of the Tezpur varsity without
investing a penny, should come forward in a big way to fund projects
besides recruiting the products. At the same time, he also urged that more
funds be infused for higher education in the country as the present
allocation amounting to .08 per cent of the GNP was far below the required
level.
NECCI
representative D. K. Sarma observed that ‘knowledge management’
was the key to failure or success of any industry. According to him,
knowledge management led to innovation, competency, efficiency and
business intelligence.
S. Sen of CII informed that the confederation’s plans to expand its
activities in the North Eastern region with a focus on generating
self-employment opportunities. He opined that ‘self-employment’ was
the way to solve problems of the N-E region.
