Youth urged to find alternate job avenues
Assam Governor, while addressing the joblessness faced by the youth stresses upon the need for job-oriented education in State universities.

Assam Governor Lt Gen (Retd.) S. K. Sinha called upon the youth to look for alternate employment opportunities, other than Government services. At the same time, he stressed on the need for ‘job-oriented’ education in Universities of the State as well as the region. While inaugurating the symposium on ‘Knowledge Management ‑- paradigm shift in business’ organised jointly by Tezpur University and NECCI, the Governor opined that there should be regular interaction between the industry and the Universities and urged for proper management of knowledge as there had been explosion of knowledge in the current century, for its fruitful exploitation.

Vice-Chancellor of the Tezpur University, Prof P Bhattacharyya urged the industry to recruit more and more management trainees through campus interviews. He proudly informed that products of the Tezpur University had succeeded in carving a niche for themselves in their respective fields. He further informed that Chicago University in the United States had appreciated the quality of management science courses in the Tezpur University on the basis of the performance of a former student of the university now studying in the US varsity. The Vice-Chancellor stated that the industry, which is getting products of the Tezpur varsity without investing a penny, should come forward in a big way to fund projects besides recruiting the products. At the same time, he also urged that more funds be infused for higher education in the country as the present allocation amounting to .08 per cent of the GNP was far below the required level.

NECCI  representative D. K. Sarma observed that ‘knowledge management’ was the key to failure or success of any industry. According to him, knowledge management led to innovation, competency, efficiency and business intelligence. S. Sen of CII informed that the confederation’s plans to expand its activities in the North Eastern region with a focus on generating self-employment opportunities. He opined that ‘self-employment’ was the way to solve problems of the N-E region.
