Likhimro Hydel Project to be revived: Imchen

Likhimro Hydel Project (LHP) will be revived at any cost, Nagaland Power Minister Imkong Imchen informed. The project, he said, will not be allowed to remain idle owing to lack of financing. Mr. Imchen after visiting the LHP said that it was estimated that about Rs 14 crore would be required to make it fully functional. The plant also requires maintenance for six months. He asserted that once it starts functioning, the project will be able to generate revenue to the tune of Rs 15 to 19 crore annually. He said 24 MW LHP is essential for growth of the economy of the State.

The Minister made it clear that the project would be made functional as early as possible. Two units of the 3x8 MW LHP was commissioned in February 2002 but within few days it stopped functioning and the project remained idle since then. The Minister also visited Horangki and Lang hydel projects under Tuensang district and apprised about the projects. He also assured that he will visit all the mini hydel projects of the state to inspect the functioning.
