Proposed corporatisation of Arunachal power sector irks AAPSU

Arunachal Government’s reported decision to convert the state’s power department into a corporation, has evoked widespread reactions in the State. All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has already urged the State Government to review the matter. The conversion is a complex issue with wide ranging implications, AAPSU President Byabang Taj said. He appealed to the government to take into consideration the advantages, disadvantages and the benefits the corporation would accrue to the people before taking the final decision. The issue should be discussed thoroughly before giving a final nod to the proposal Mr. Taj noted adding that, a hasty decision could be harmful for the State. On the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) for the execution of Subansiri mega hydel project, the AAPSU leader asked the State Government to finalise the establishment of the corporation office at Gerukamukh before inking the MoU. ''The future prospect of the state and its people are linked to such projects,'' the AAPSU president said and added that the proposal should be rejected if it is not beneficial for the State. ”The State Government should not be misguided on such a vital issue by implementing agencies like NHPC,'' he added.
