Charges highly exaggerated says Tripura Government Observing
that the allegations about the
State’s failure to tackle law and order will only strengthen the hands
of extremists, the Tripura Government has criticised recent statement of
PCC president Birajit Sinha. The PCC president recently released the list
of “chargesheets” against the “misrule of the Left Front
Government” headed by Manik Sarkar and displayed dozens of photographs
of “victims” who allegedly suffered at the hands of CPI-M activists. Describing
the charges as “highly exaggerated”, the State Government in a
statement said his figures on violence in the State were inflated and did
not tally with the figures of the Centre. Mr. Sinha earlier said that during the last three years of
CPI-M rule there were 2,909 murders, 2,514 kidnappings, 15,704 cases of
arson and 2,531 militant attacks. Referring to
the demand for resignation of the State Government, the statement said
that the charges were made with an ulterior motive.
It would only strengthen the hands
of extremists and anti-national forces by such remarks, the
statement said. The statement further contended
that the Congress leader, however, did not press upon the Centre
the need for deployment of additional forces in Tripura to tackle
insurgency.
