NSCN (IM) declarations evoke reactions in Arunachal

The declarations made by the NSCN(IM) at Camp Hebron regarding integration of all Naga inhabited areas before arriving at a final conclusion of the protracted Indo-Naga peace process, has evoked widespread reactions among various cross section of people in Arunachal Pradesh.

Naga people and organizations, covering across the length and breadth of Naga homeland after two days of intensive interaction with the collective leadership of the NSCN(IM) at Camp Hebron declared full support for a honorable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue on the basis of the uniqueness of Naga history and situation.

The organization also declared that the unification of all Naga areas is legitimate and therefore non-negotiable, the political solution be found through peaceful means and that both government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim should uphold utmost honesty and sincerity towards finding a political solution.

Majority of the political parties in this Himalayan state, including students' organization and even the state government are opposing tooth and nail to the integration of Naga inhabited areas especially Tirap and Changlang districts of the state in the proposed 'Greater Nagalim' of the NSCN (IM).

The Arunachal Pradesh government had already passed a resolution in the Assembly not to spare an inch of Arunachal's land and to protect its territory. State Home Minister Jarbom Gamlin, who is also the government spokesman, commented that the state government would stick to the assembly resolution in this regard.''Our stand is very clear. We will not spare even an inch of Arunachal's land to the NSCN (IM). No question of parting state's territory arises,'' Mr Gamlin said and added that since the resolution was passed by the highest decision making body of the state, individual thing was immaterial.

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Working President Nabam Tuki was of the opinion that since Tirap and Changlang districts are integral part of the state, the people as well as the state government would not allow anybody to disturb the state's territory.

''The question of integration will also depend on the wish of the people of these two districts besides their opinion on what they really want,'' Mr Tuki said. Making it clear that the party would oppose any move to divide the state, BJP state president Bosiram Siram said people of the state would never allow any organization to part these two districts from the map of Arunachal.

The apex students' organization of the state-All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) is also of similar view and ready to oppose any move to include Tirap and Changlang districts in the proposed map of the NSCN (IM).''We have made our stand clear and will not give anything to anybody,'' said AAPSU General Secretay Gunjum Haider.
