BJP cautions against greater Bangladesh BJP Assam unit president Indramani Bora and former president Rajen Gohain warned the people against the 'evil' designs of the Tarun Gogoi led Congress government to convert the state into 'greater Bangladesh' along with parts of north east. The MPs said the Congress government did not want repeal of the Illegal Migrants Determination Tribunal (IMDT) act of 1983 to help illegal migrants stay in Assam thereby converting the border districts into minority dominated ones. The act is applicable in Assam only to detect and deport illegal migrants. The leaders claimed that once the Congress government was voted to power in the next assembly polls, it would be difficult to prevent conversion of the state into a part of the proposed 'greater Bangladesh', as allegedly being planned by the Congress in league with Bangladesh lobby. They urged all like-minded forces to unite and defeat the Congress in the next assembly polls. According to BJP, illegal migrants were not a threat to Hindus only, but to Christians and original Assamese Muslims too. In wake of
the alleged failure of this government on all fronts, the BJP decided to
organise a 'Dispur gherao' programme during the budget session demanding
immediate dismissal of the Gogoi government. |
