The All Assam Student Union (AASU) got its new leadership after a three-day meeting in the state.The new ASSU president will be Shankar Prasad Ray and general secretary will be Tapan Dutta, replacing Prabin Boro and Amiya Bhuyan respectively. The selection of the new leadership assumes significance as the Union has played an important role in determining the political future of Assam for the past two and half decades.

he three-day session which was held after five years at Moran in Upper Assam saw an unprecedented response and literally forced AASU advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharrya to reconsider his decision to come out of the organisation.''I have not yet taken a decision. I am touched by the emotional call but I had decided to come out of it as per the constitution of the AASU. I need time to reconsider the decision,'' he said.
