Southern states to train SPs at CIJWS Three southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are planning to train their security personnel at the Army's Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) in Mizoram. Senior police officials from three states said that they would recommend that their personnel should be trained at the school to equip them for the security challenges in their states.DGP K Vijaykumar, who ended the decades-long reign of terror of forest brigand Veerappan last year, said he would consider upgrading Special Task Force (STF) training infrastructure in Tamil Nadu on the lines of the one at CIJWS. This would help the personnel to sharpen their skills.''Efforts will be made to upgrade the methods at the training centre there,'' he said. Here at CIJWS for a
two-day programme, the DGP said, ''It is a wonderful experience to be here
and share the intelligence with the Army personnel on how to counter ultras.
I will also be requesting my state government to send some of my personnel
here for training.'' He said planning operations to counter insurgency need
to be done with utmost care and after a lot of deliberation, and the STF
would ensure that more Veerappans do not raise their ugly head again. ''We
have only reduced the gang to one third of its strength,'' he added.
Karnataka IG Nagaraga said he would also propose to the government to send
Superintendents of Police from Shimoga, Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada
districts, where Naxalite activity had been reported. Andhra Pradesh IG
Durga Prasad also expressed similar views |
