UPA lacks policy on insurgency problem: BJP Stating observing that the ISI has been ''spreading its tentacles'' all over the North-East, the BJP alleged that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre failed to evolve any concrete policy on the insurgency problem of the region. Addressing mediapersons, BJP North East Border Area (NEBA) in-charge V Satish alleged that the UPA government was taking a ''soft stand'' on the insurgents and forces inimical to India and was turning a blind eye to the potential threats of ISI activists. ''The central government lacks proper perception of the regions' need,'' Mr Satish alleged and added that the UPA government was showing utter negligence to the issues relating to security of the country.Assam government and particularly Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's denial on ISI activities and contradictory statement on the presence of Bangladeshi refugees in the state indicated the Congress leaders' connivance with such forces Mr Satish alleged and demanded a CBI probe into the Republic Day blasts at Guwahati. Castigating the Centre for its failure to initiate peace talks with insurgent groups in the region, he expressed doubt whether the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil's ongoing visit to the region would bear any fruit. He also said that it was disheartening that the UPA government, despite having two eminent economists in Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram, had failed to control the price rise, unlike the NDA regime, when inflation was under total control.
