Tarun Gogoi launches Volvo bus service in North East Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi flagged off the Volvo bus service in the North East. The bus service, already operating in the southern, western and northern sectors of the country, introduced its service to capitalise on the need for road communication in the absence of proper rail links. Initially, the Volvo bus would operate in Guwahati, North Lakkimpur and Tinsukia divisions. Launching the bus service, the Chief Minister said the decision of Volvo to enter the North Eastern segment of the country through Guwahati indicated the success of his government in developing the infrastructure facility in the state. He hoped that the bus service would not only facilitate better transport system for the commuters, but also help in promoting better and faster connection in the region, paving the way for economic development. Mr Gogoi also inauguarated the electronic ticketing system for the Volvo bus service. The state government has already extended help to build a special bus terminus for Volvo near the Ulubari flyover. State transport minister Anjan Dutta, who was present at the programmne, sounded optimistic about the bus service. Earlier during the day, senior personnel from Volvo gave a presentation to project Volvo's credibility in 80 countries in the world and in 80 different cities in India by offering a speedy, enviorment-friendly and luxurious transport service. | Headlines
