Cong demands Tripura CM's resignation after skeleton recovery

Not satisfied with the order of a CBI probe, Congress demanded resignation of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar following the recovery of a woman's skeleton from his official residence.   Tripura Pradesh Congress President Birajit Sinha and Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath expressed that as Mr. Sarkar holds the home portfolio, the CBI inquiry, ordered by the state government, would not be impartial. The Congress announced a massive statewide movement in support of their demand. The party claimed that during the reign of Mr. Sarkar, more than 47 people, including several political leaders, were killed here and on the outskirts of the city and the police failed to punish a single murderer. It may be mentioned here that some pieces of a human skeleton have been recovered from the official residential complex of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in Agartala. The Tripura Government immediately decided to refer the case toCBI for investigation. According to the official version while the Agartala Municipal Council workers were cleaning a septic tank in the old staff quarters in the Chief Minister's official residential campus, pieces of a human skeleton were recovered. These include one skull, three pieces of rib bones, three pieces of forearms and two pieces of shin.Experts of the forensic laboratory were examining the pieces of the skeleton to ascertain age, origin and other related matters. Prima-facie the remains appeared to be very old. Police have registered a case under section 157 Cr P C. State Forensic Laboratory Director H K Pratihari informed that they would take help of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in examining the remains of the skeleton. DNA and all necessary tests and examinations would be done to ascertain relevant information, Dr Pratihari pointed out. However, the Congress is of the opinion that during the Left Front regime, political killings are always on  the rise. Alleging that the ruling CPI(M) had been backing the militants, Mr Nath said the mafias, brokers are closely associated with the government, which, he said, distributed government contract works among those Mafias and party cadres. If the insurgency continues, the Left Front government would be benefited because they would get huge money from the Centre in various insurgency related schemes, he remarked.
