BJP, APCDA resent enforcement of sales tax in Arunachal Arunachal Pradesh unit of BJP expressed its displeasure over the enforcement of uniform floor rate of sales tax in the state at the fag end of the current fiscal. Party's spokesman Tai Tagak said that the State Government should have implemented the sales tax from April next along with the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT). He said the sudden implementation of tax on all items came as a shock to the common people as well as the trading fraternity criticizing the government for its hasty decision to enforce taxes, Mr. Tagak said the government had not looked into the problems of the common people as well as the traders expressing shock over the implementation of uniform sales tax, the spokesman said, ''The government could have invited suggestions of the opposition, elected representatives and trading community for greater interest of the state before taking such a decision.' 'The party advocated for
simple and uniform implementation of the floor rate of sales tax considering
the present socio-economic condition of the people. It also urged the state
government to reconsider uniform sales tax of 20 per cent on essential
commodities like LPG and sought clarification on eight per cent umbrella
sales tax in all other commodities not mentioned in the order to remove
confusion among the consumers. Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Chemists and
Druggists Association (APCDA) in a letter to state commissioner of taxes
urged to reconsider implementation of taxes on medicines for the greater
interest of people of the state. |
