Chief Minister D D Lapang reshuffled his cabinet by allocating important portfolios to two Garo legislators.Dr Mukul Sangma, who was pitted against Purno A Sangma in the last general elections for the Tura parliamentary seat, was given the Home (police) portfolio, according to an official notification.

  He will also look after Forest and Environment, Higher and Technical Education, Elementary and Mass Education and Information and Technology. Another Garo legislator, Brening A Sangma has been assigned the PWD (road) portfolio, which was earlier held by the present Home Minister. He will also hold the portfolios of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Evaluation, Weights and Measurement and Relief and Rehabilitation. H D R Lyngdoh, who was earlier in-charge of Home, will now hold portfolios of PHE, General Administration Department, Agriculture, Horticulture and Information and Public Relations. The portfolios of the other ministers would remain unchanged.
