ANSAM asks Naga legislators to resign

The All Naga Students Association of Manipur (ANSAM) today appealed to all Naga MLAs and ministers in the Manipur Assembly to resign as the "Naga identity and dignity could not be safeguarded under the present arrangement of Manipur
state".
In a statement here ANSAM said, ''At this moment the Nagas in Manipur have come to their conscious realisation and unitedly resolved that it will not be possible to live with dignity under the present state of Manipur.''

The students' body said it was making the appeal for strengthening the ongoing non-cooperation movement launched in the four hill districts of Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati against the Manipur government's "coercive and belligerent" attitude towards a peaceful assertion of the Naga people's democratic will.

The ANSAM claimed that the "people's movement" had the overwhelming support of all Nagas throughout the "length and breadth of Naga homeland", who desire to live together under one administrative unit, the release added.
