‘Manipur census faulty’ THE BJP charged the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) Government in Manipur with submitting a “wrong and unrealistic” Census report. The 2001 Census report, prepared by the State Government, was “full of errors” and had been compiled “arbitrarily” without “proper” field work, said a spokesman of the State BJP unit. Compared to the 1991 Census report, the 2001 report showed an almost 81 per cent increase in the population of the Senapati district whereas increase in most of the valley districts showed a 15 per cent rise on an average, he said. The spokesman clarified that of the hill districts, Ukhrul recorded a 38 per cent increase, Chandel 70 per cent and Churachandpur 29 per cent. Compared to these figures, the 2001 report showed an increase of only 13 per cent in the valley district of Bishnupur and 29 per cent in Imphal, he said. The wrong report would severely affect several aspects of the State economy, including developmental works. BJP turns to NE youth North East News Agency BJP is turning to the youth in the region to reach out
to more people and broad base its base. First step in the direction is a
Youth Conference at Guwahati scheduled for this November. In attendance will
be a galaxy of Union Ministers, BJP leaders and subject experts besides
Party chief Venkaiah Naidu. “We will discuss very minutely all issues
bedeviling the region. Yes these include financial mess the states are in
and the insurgency problem”, said G Krishna Reddy, Chief, BJP’s Youth Wing -
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJMY). At the end of the deliberations, the
conference will come up with a road map for the future on development, jobs
and growth. Talented NE Youth who had made a mark at home and outside will
be honoured to mark the occasion. Another first for the occasion will be a
youth cultural festival and a food festival. Kishan Reddy has extensively
toured Manipur. Obviously he finds the Congress ruled troubled state as
greenfield area for BJP. He terms the situation in Manipur as catastrophic
and holds the Congress-led SPF Ministry responsible for siphoning off all
the development fund and encouragement to outlawed organisations. |
