Electricity to 165 tribal villages of NE
Electrification of 165 out of 500
tribal villages to be electrified in the North-Eastern region under the
Prime Minister’s Agenda for the North-East announced in January, 2000, has
been taken up in the first phase. An amount of Rs 12.96 crore has been
released to the NE States under first instalment as grant in-aid and as
Central assistance from the Central Pool of Resources, the release added. Of
the 165 tribal villages taken up for rural electrification in the region, 60
are in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, 20 in Assam, ten in Meghalaya, three
in Mizoram, two in Nagaland and ten in Tripura, the release said. Rs 4.48
crore has been sanctioned for Arunachal Pradesh and 34 villages have been
electrified up to December 1, 2002. An amount of Rs 0.68 crore has been
sanctioned for Assam and 10 villages electrified. In Meghalaya, all ten
villages have been electrified for which an amount of Rs 0.75 crore had been
sanctioned. Two villages of Nagaland have been electrified with an amount of
Rs 0.45 crore. In Mizoram, and amount of Rs 0.34 crore had been sanctioned
and work in electrification of three villages was in progress up to December
1, 2002. Of the 60 villages to be electrified in Manipur, three had been
completed and work in 27 villages were in progress up to December 1, 2002,
with a sanction of Rs 5.64 crore. In Tripura Rs 0.72 crore had been
sanctioned and electrification of six villages had been completed by
December 1, 2002. |
