AC ridicules Mithi govt’s claim

The opposition Arunachal Congress (AC) has ridiculed the Mukut Mithi government’s claim that it has fulfilled 98 per cent promises given to the people in its last election manifesto. While Chief Minister Mukut Mithi has repeatedly claimed his government’s achievements were more than the previous government headed by Gegong Apang, the former conveniently had overlooked the stricture of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India against his government, the AC said.

The CAG in its reports criticised the Mithi government for ‘defective budgeting and inadequate control over expenditure as evident by persistent resumption (surrender) of significant amount every year vis-a-via the central modified grant”, the release added. The Congress party’s claim that the present government has been clearing the debt burden of the previous government is an ‘utter lie’ as the government is limping under the weights of its own misdeeds, the AC release alleged.

CAG reports have dismissed all the clams of the state government about its financial health. According to the CAG reports, the internal debts and other liabilities have sharply increased in comparison to 1998-99. The total liabilities of the state had also increased from Rs 409.10 crore in 1998-99 to Rs 945.66 crore in 2000-01, according to the CAG report, the release said adding the Apang government has been criticised though it had won laurels of the Planning Commission for its fiscal management in the past.

NSCN (IM) escapes caught: Two NSCN (IM) insurgents, who were being tried under Arunachal Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act and escaped from a police lock-up, were re-arrested from a dense jungle bordering Assam, police said. One of the two activists, Tave Kangoo was captured by a police team led by Papum Pare Superintendent of Police Robin Hibu, police said. The other absconding NSCN ultra James Jagoi alies Joy Thangkul, was arrested from the jungle. Eight undertrials including the two NSCN (IM) cadres escaped from a police lockup after breaking open iron rods of a ventilator.
