Army constructs 150 metre-long bridge

A 150-metre-long suspension bridge over Chathe river at Seitheke Basa village near Dimapur, constructed under military civic action programme by the 6th Bihar Regiment, was formally inaugurated recently. Dedicating the bridge to the villagers, Commander of the 44 Mountain Brigade, Brigadier G S Malhi said Nagaland had the potential to become one of the best States of the country if the youths were guided in the right direction.

“Nagas are a race with lots of talents and potential and they have shown in the Army their inborn quality as tough fighters,” he said and appealed to the people to stay in the mainstream to ensure more development. The enthusiasm, dedication and spirit of unity shown by the villagers during the construction of the bridge were highly commendable, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Nagaland Minister for Central Administrative Works Department Hewoto Awomi said that let the bridge would help the people particularly in transport and communication be a symbol of peace. He said the Army had been playing a vital role construction of roads, culverts and sports grounds besides distributing free medicines and clothing’s.

“The Nagas on their part should maintain a cordial relationship with the Army to maintain peace and tranquillity so that they can develop their locality,” he said. The bridge, constructed within a record time of 60 days, will help more that 20,000 people from
three villages located east of the river whose proximity to the NH 39 had been reduced from eight km to one km.
