ULFA kin wants AHRC to summon Paresh Barua The relatives of the ULFA militants have petitioned the Assam Human Rights Commission to summon ULFA ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Barua for returning their kith and kin who were forcefully kept in jungles by the rebel outfit. The relatives under the banner Assam Public Works ULFA Pariyal Committee (APWUPC) have filed a petition before the AHRC to issue the summons against the now in hiding ULFA C-in-C addressed to his residence in the care of his mother Milika Barua of village Jarai Sakali Bharia in Dibrugarh district. Stating they had filed 202 cases before the Commission a year ago, the relatives urged the summon to be issued so that the public was aware that the AHRC was taking action on the cases. They pointed out that the poor family members and old parents were awaiting justice for return of their children lured away by the banned outfit which was still recruiting a large number of youths mainly from Nalbari, Kamrup, Barpeta and Darrang districts. The APWUPC also wanted the Commission to take
independent steps against Barua or any other leaders of ULFA to release
their relatives forcibly kept by the rebel group with guns or lured away
with money. The Committee also did not want the police to conduct search
operations in the villages and houses of the ULFA activists’ family members
harassing them both physically and mentally. |
