Naga issue reffered to CCS

The controversial issue of integration of Naga-inhabited areas has been reffered to Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) for a closer look. This has been decided at a meeting between Home Minister Shivraj Patil and senior officials of the ministry to discuss the progress of the ongoing talks between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah).

The hour-long meeting was also attended by Centre's Interlocutor on Naga talks K. Padmanabhaiah, Mr Padmanabhaiah briefed the Home Minister on the progress of the talks. NSCN(IM) leaders T Muivah and Isak Chishi have been in India
since November 2004 for parleys with the Centre. The two leaders visited Nagaland also to ascertain the views of the people there on the peace process, including the contentious issue of Greater Nagaland.

The talks appear passing through a difficult phase with the NSCN (IM) having warned that it would adopt a different stand if the ongoing talks dragged on for years to reach an amicable solution.

The NSCN (IM) has already expressed displeasure over the ''slow progress'' of the ongoing peace process. It has warned
that any further delay to reach a solution would force the NSCN(IM) to adopt a different posture.
