The
recent massacre of innocent civilians
at Kaluchak in Jammu was yet again an attempt to demoralise the security
forces who are doing a commendable job against all odds to protect the unity
and integrity of the country. By
targeting family members of the security forces, the terrorists had once
again showed the world how much did they care about precious human lives. It
was an attack against mankind bereft of all humane considerations and
deserve no leniency but all condemnations and severe punishment. There
is no gainsaying that notwithstanding the success in Afghanistan, where the
global coalition against terrorism had managed to dethrone the Taliban
regime, the war against terrorism is far from being over. Osama bin Laden
and Mollah Omar are still at large. Their followers, though ousted from
Afghanistan, are now trying to regroup in different parts of the world. It
is learnt that more dangerously, few partners of the global coalition
against terrorism are actually helping the terrorist forces, rather than
trying to root out the menace from the face of the earth. Our western
neighbour Pakistan is one such country. After September 11, that country was
among the first nations to join the global coalition against terrorism. But
in reality, it did everything possible to keep terrorism sustain itself.
Despite the international pressure, Pakistan is yet to close down the
training camps of terrorist forces on its soil. The country is still being
considered a safe haven by the forces of destruction. All these are not
merely Indian propaganda. Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl had
to pay the price for bringing out the truth. It is now an established fact
that Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan during the Afghan war. The attacks on
Indian Parliament, Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and on the civilians at
Kaluchak, are indicative enough that the terrorists are still receiving help
from across the border despite the tall promises made by Pakistani President
Parvez Musharraf of not allowing any terrorist activities from its soil. Time has now
come for the international community to put pressure on Pakistan. Kashmir
issue and terrorism are two totally different things. Terrorism is no
solution to the Kashmir issue. The Pakistani President should not be allowed
to justify his acts of helping and abetting terrorism hiding behind the
Kashmir problem again and again. This poses a great danger to world peace as
an escalation of tension between India and Pakistan may prove costly to the
world. |
