Governor urges people to be aware of AIDS

NAGALAND Governor Shyamal Datta urged the people to be aware of HIV/AIDS as it was spreading fast in the State. Nagaland, with 4.5 million people affected with the disease, occupies the sixth position in the country. Inaugurating the upgradation of the Naga hospital, Mr. Datta said as the spread of HIV rate had attained an alarming proportion in the country, it is the duty of every citizen to become aware of the disease. The governor lamented that many projects had failed due to mismanagement. He, however, lauded the State Government’s communitisation policy which he felt would benefit the people.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) in its Common Minimum Programme before the assembly elections, had promised to complete all long pending projects. Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Thenucho in his welcome speech said the Naga Hospital, the first and oldest hospital in the  state, was established in 1905. In 1944 during the second World War the hospital was extensively damaged. In 1946 the hospital was shifted to the present site.
