Security forces have arrested Mahek Taotao, a self-styled ''Haflong town commander'' of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isac-Muiva).Troops also recovered large number of extortion notes from the possession of the 29-year-old militant. Mahek, belonging to Thangkul community and resident of Ukhrul district in Manipur, was arrested from the house of Robert Zemi of Longmang village near Haflong, following a raid last night.

During interrogation Army officials found that he was engaged in extortion in Haflong town and adjacent areas.Large number of extortion notes in the name of NSCN (IM) and addressed to prominent businessman and government officials of NC Hill demanding lakhs of rupees were recovered from him.

Army sources said it will continue its operation to flush out the militants from south Assam areas.
