NSCN (K) promises to utilise the ceasefire period to bring about a political settlement to the Indo-Naga issue through dialogue. The NSCN (Khaplang) said that things are moving in a ‘positive direction’ for formal talks between the group and Vajpayee government.

"New Delhi is mounting pressure on us to begin the peace talks. We, too, are keen on it, but we shall have it at a time of our choosing," K.Mulatonu, NSCN (K)’s Deputy `Minister’ for Information said. The NSCN (K) leader said that a meeting between his group and the Centre in New Delhi on April 21 has led to the extension of the ceasefire between the two sides for another year.

The NSCN (K) team, that included Mulatonu, was led by the outfit’s Information ‘Minister’ Toshi Longkumer.  The Centre was represented by the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jain.

"We shall utilise the ceasefire period to bring about a political settlement to the protracted Indo-Naga issue through dialogue," Mulatonu said. He added: "We shall also try to erase the anti-Naga acts and terrorist threats of the Isak (Muivah) group."

The NSCN (K) leader claimed that his group has ‘hard evidence’ to prove the terrorist activities of the rival I-M faction before the international communityBJP welcomes extension of ceasefire with NSCN

The BJP has welcomed the extension of cease-fire between the NSCN (K) and the Centre.

BJP North-East in-charge V Satish said,"The BJP-led NDA Government in the Centre was committed to providing all round development and assistance to the State, part of which was reflected in the allocation of Rs 365 crore to the State as financial assistance.

The BJP leader said the Centre was fully backing the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government in Nagaland led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and appreciated the DAN Government efforts to bring all round development in the State.

He maintained that there was no development in the last 20 years in the State. Mr Satish also met the BJP legislators and Ministers, who are also alliance partners of the DAN, yesterday. He also met the Chief Minister and discussed matters of mutual interest.

On the parties prospect, the leader said the party has over 25,000 primary members throughout the State and it has done very well in the panchayat election in Arunachal Pradesh despite the misuse of power by the ruling Congress Government. He also claimed that the BJP would able to do well in the next polls in Mizoram as the present ruling MNF Government was facing anti-incumbency problem in the State.
