Guwahati Vision 2008 Better deal for Guwahati. This is what the North East Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NECCI) is proposing as a part of its campaign for developing Guwahati as a planned city with cost effective infrastructure. The apex chamber of the region is organising a brainstorming session on June 5 where issues like water and sanitation, urban housing, infrastructure, healthcare, education, bio-diversity, governance, basic amenities and environmental protection will be discussed. Pragjyotishpur of long years ago has blossomed into Guwahati but this growth has been haphazard creating an imbalance in vision for development. The city has to be developed as a well balanced model both economically and environmentally. "Guwahati Vision-2008", the development summit, according to NECCI, will essentially focus on issues pertinent to developing Guwahati as a prosperous, peaceful and safe human habitant. There will be seminars and presentations on selected themes such as infrastructure development vis-a-vis peaceful and progressive living, urban housing and biodiversity vs. basic amenities and environmental protection, education and governance vis-a-vis to sustainable development, water health and sanitation role of media in sustainable development, role of financial and social institutions for developing Guwahati as a global city followed by interrogations. A memorandum will be worked out from the deliberations and interactions and will be submitted to Governments, semi-govt organizations, departments. Based on this
consideration, NECCI asked academicians, political leaders, leading
government decision makers, heads of corporate, scientists, media persons,
researchers and representatives of non-governmental organizations, and youth
leaders about their vision for Guwahati five years down the line. |
