Building for Bodo Centre

The newly constructed building of the "Society for Bodo Cultural Institute" at North Bongaigaon was formally inaugurated by Urkho Gwra Brahma, MP (Rajya Sabha) in the presence of a gathering of distinguished guests, leading citizens and local public. The building was constructed under the MP Local Area Development Fund (MPLADs) at an estimated cost of Rs 16 lakh.

Brahma in his inaugural speech said that this new cultural institute will help to revive the rich Bodo culture which is on the verge of extinction. He also stressed the need to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of other ethnic groups and expressed his hope that through this institution mutual understanding and appreciation of their respective arts and culture would be promoted.

On the occasion, a public meeting was held, where DC, Bongaigaon G.K. Kalita in his speech appealed to the people of different caste, creed and community to work for the preservation of their respective cultural heritage. He said that cultural understanding can be best promoted among the communities through the mutual exchange of thoughts and ideas and through the establishment of closer socio-cultural ties among the cross section of the people.

To mark the occasion, a souvenir named Aabodangi was inaugurated by Mrigen Das, Principal of Birjhora Science College, Bongaigaon. Earlier, Matindra Basumatary, MLA of Sidli constituency undertook tree plantation in the compound of the newly constructed building of the cultural institute.

The function was attended among others by BLT vice-president Chandan Brahma, ABSU adviser, Bichiram Narzary, Bodo Writers’ Forum’s president Dinanath Basumatary, ANSU president Keshab Basnet and Niren Roy president of Koch Rajbongshi Sanmiloni.

A cultural function was also held on the occasion where artistes of different ethnic groups participated.
