Dismiss Gujarat Govt, demands Rishang

FORMER Manipur chief minister and Congress Rajya Sabha member Rishang Keishing demanded immediate dismissal of the Gujarat Government headed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Keishing, who was Manipur’s chief minister for over 12 years, said continuance of Modi in power had posed a threat to secularism in the country and added that violence continued in that State even after 40 days.

Senior Congress leader said  BJP president Krishnamurthy’s recent statement that Modi would not be removed from office had encouraged communalism and demanded immediate resignation of Narendra Modi. Mr. Keishing who was elected  to the Rajya Sabha from Manipur  on April 8 last, said he would urge the Centre  to hold talks with various underground outfits in the North-Eastern  region without any  pre-condition.

He also condemned the underground organisations for the April 9 incident in which two civilians were killed in an underground attack on CRPF personnel at Pangei area. Mr. Keishing said some outfits were using the civilians as ‘human shields’ while attacking the security forces and urged the militants to stop this practice.
