New helicopter service Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi dedicated to the people a 26-seater Pawan Hans helicopter to increase the air connectivity to remote parts of this land-locked State. The twin-engine Mi-17 helicopter has airline type seats and is capable of flying to most places, hitherto unconnected by air or all-weather roads. At present the state has a Dauphin helicopter, which carries 7-8 passengers. The inaugural flight took off from
Naharlagun helipad with Mr. Mithi and 19 others, some of them his cabinet
colleagues are in addition to existing Dauphin helicopter, which had been
carrying only 7-8 passengers. The chief minister said the State Government
has taken the helicopter from Pawan Hans Helicopter Ltd., on a long-term
wet-lease to minimise the huge outgo on hiring air force helicopters. The
State Government, he said, used to pay Rs 2.66 lakh per flying hour to IAF
helicopters. Now it will pay Rs 98,000 per flying hour to Pawan Hans, saving
at least Rupees six crore per annum. | Arunachal | North East Enquirer (Headlines) | Nena Home Page | |
