"Mithi Govt looting public money": Apang
Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Gegong Apang has criticised the Mukut Mithi
Government for, what it termed, its "utter failure in all fronts including law and
order and fiscal management. Mr. Apang, who was the chief minister of the State for
19 years said that being a senior politician, he did not like to criticise the Mithi
Government during the last two years. But he could not remain a silent spectator any more
after watching a "looting of public money by Ministers, MLAs and many
bureaucrats". Mr. Apang who is the chairman of the Arunachal Congress Working
Committee announced his partys decision to launch an Arunachal bachao
movement soon to save the State from further disaster.
Mr. Apang said the Mithi government was "looting public money coming from the
Planning Commission, North-Eastern Council and relief funds as if it was coming as their
pocket expenses". "If such practices continued, the state would be left with
only liabilities for the future generation" he cautioned.
Regarding law and order, Mr. Apang said crimes including abduction, extortion, robberies
and murder had gone up alarmingly. Referring to Tirap and Changlang districts, he said
ultras belonging to NSCN (K) and NSCN (I-M) had become active in the area and the leaders
who were responsible for inviting and abetting insurgency in the area were now hiding in
big cities leaving the common people at large. This government, he said had lost all
credibility to bring the situation under control. He lamented that Upper Siang district
was the worst afftected in the flash floods of June 11 last, but the government did not
come out with proper relief measures.
