The NLFT insurgents attacked two tea gardens of North Tripura district and kidnapped six of their employees including the manager and deputy manager of one. A group of about 25 insurgents, armed with sophisticated weapons, raided Rangrung Tea Garden and kidnapped its manager Ratna Pradip Bhattacharya and his deputy Pankaj Dhar. The same group then attacked adjoining Tachai Tea Garden and abducted eight persons including its accountant Nepal Goala. However, the ultras later released four persons. They also looted some local shops. Senior districts police officials rushed to the spot with heavy contingent. Tripura branch of the  Tea Association of India condemned the incident and urged the Government to deploy security forces in the gardens.
