| Mithi warns against threat to bio-diversity in Arunachal There is a need to preserve forest and bio-diversity not only for the sake of our cultural, spiritual or other values but also due to its material worth, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi said while inaugurating the day long workshop on bio-diversity strategy and action plam. "It is increasingly becoming evident that any threat to bio-diversity would ultimately affect our own existence adversely. If the fine balance that exists in nature was disrupted, ultimately, we would be the vistims," Mr. Mithi said. Bio-technology is the most advancing frontier of science and in coming decades bio-rich Arunachal would certainly be the land of green gold, Mr. Mithi asserted. But with the advent of market economy and consequent materialistic way of life the harmony between man and nature has come under serious threat, he added. Mr. Mithi emphasised the need for preparing a correct bio-diversity action plan for the State which had been recognised as one of the mega bio-diversity hot spots of the world to help the framing of the destiny of the people with tremendous economic activities. Citing example, Mr. Mithi said China at present exports 35 per cent of the medicinal herbs of the world, whereas India had registered only 0.05 per cent. Arunachal, he said was very rich in medicinal plants which needed scientific tapping. | Arunachal | Oriental Times(Headlines) | Nena Home Page | |
