NMA dismayed over Tadubi incident

In a hard-hitting statement, the Naga Mothers’ Association has expressed shock over the Tadubi incident in which three persons were reportedly injured. NMA president Neidonuo Angami in the statement said, "the Naga Mothers’ Association is shocked and dismayed over the incident of 14th August, 2001 at Tadubi. The NMA takes a strong exception to the inhuman act of Captain K.K. Sharma and his soldiers of 3 Assam Rifles. He deliberately disturbed the ‘human chain’ programme being organised by the Naga women to strengthen the ongoing peace process."We, the Naga mothers, strongly condemn Captain K.K. Sharma’s behaviour and his attempt on the life of Neingulo Krome, secretary general of NPMHR. The indiscriminate firing has wounded three persons with serious bullet injuries.

Many people had been assaulted with rifle butts. This incident has made us raise so many questions once again. Why are the Indian security forces dearth of any sense of human rights? Why is the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act still in operation when the people all over the world are crying for peace? Why do these
Indian security forces behave against the Nagas in such a manner when peace process is in full swing between the Nagas and the Government of India?"

"The NMA proudly states that the women who were participating in the programme had shown the quality of Naga womanhood by physically intervening while the captain was in the process of assaulting the secretary general of the NPMHR. Owing to their bold and selfless intervention, the Secretary General of the NPMHR was saved." "The NMA questions the Indian security forces whether they have been posted in the Naga areas to ‘defend’ the people or to jeopardise the peace process. No security force will even contemplate to wage a war against democratic civilians. The Naga mothers believe that such high-handedness and irresponsible act is the most potent destructive weapon which crushes anything positive including human peaceful co-existence."
