Sikkim Governor in Delhi, assured all Centres support Sikkim Governor K. N. Sahani recently called on Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. While talking on his proposed visit to Sikkim, the Prime Minister evinced his keen interest to visit Sikkim in near future. He also indicated that his visit to Sikkim was delayed because of his pre-occupation with important national and international matters. However, Mr. Vajpayee assured him that he would certainly visit Sikkim. During his stay in Delhi, Mr. Sahani met, among others, Home Minister L.K.Advani, Minister for Human Resource Development, Minister for Urban Development, Minister for Civil Aviation and other Central Ministers and apprised them of the various ongoing development activities undertaken by the Government of Sikkim. In this connection, Mr. Sahani said that the Central Ministers were optimistic and keen to extend maximum support to the Government of Sikkim. For instance, the Civil Aviation Ministry has already sanctioned the proposal of State Government for construction of an airstrip in Sikkim for which the basic infrastructure like land, construction of approach road, etc, will be undertaken by the State Government. The Governor also informed that Sushma Swaraj, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, assured him that she is keen to visit Sikkim along with her senior officers and top film personalities to explore the possibility of suitable locations sites for film shooting and exposing Sikkim in the global arena. Mr. Sahani emphasised on the urgent need of making the people aware of the potential resources of Sikkim, like orchid and floriculture development, horticulture improvement, improvement of traditional cottage and handloom industries, management of wasteland, protection and propagation of medicinal herbs, etc. Mr. Sahani also informed the presspersons about computer training in government schools and will be continued, consequent on the withdrawal of the order by the Central HRD Ministry which had earlier banned the computer education at the school level. The Governor stressed on the need to lay
down a policy to harness the available talents in the State to ensure rapid progress by
utilising the talents of the technocrats, senior citizens, littérateurs, etc. He also
appealed to every citizen to come forward and contribute his or her mite towards building
