Governor leads Sikkim in paying tributes to Kargil heroes Sikkim paid glowing tributes to the Kargil martyrs at a solemn function to commemorate the second anniversary of Indias victory over Pakistan intruders at Kargil front two years back. Governor of Sikkim, Kedar Nath Sahani laid the wreath to pay tribute to the brave soldiers at Kargil Memorial Youdha Samadhi built at Community Hall for the occasion followed by two minutes silence at the onset of the programme along with Assam Regiment Jawans who stood-in-Guard with sounding of bugle. After lighting the butter lamp placed before the built memorial by D.T. Lepcha, Minister, Forest Department, the Kargil Vijay Dewas was rounded off by singing of patriotic song "Jo sahid huye hai unki, jara yaad karo kurbani" by students of Modern Secondary School & West Point Sr. Secondary School followed by national anthem. A host of other signatories including Mrs. Sahani, Kalawati Subba, Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Zilla Adyaksha (East), U.K. Gurung, Chairpersons, Chief Secretary, S.W. Tenzing, GOC Maj. Gen. Kuldip Chandra Vig, VSM, Director General of Police, R. K. Honda, Secretaries, Army Officers, Head of Departments, Senior Citizens, Government officers and local gentries paid their floral tributes to the martyrs at the Samadhi who laid down their lives defending the country during Operation Vijay. |
