ULFA men sneak into Guwahati to strike terror: Army TO carry out subversive activities, at least 25 hardcore United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants headed by dreaded militant Dristi Rajkhowa have sneaked into Guwahati city with sophisticated weapons and explosives. The militants are likely to target vital installations and VVIPs. An Army release pertaining to this vital information said that the ULFA men have also been directed by their leaders to plant bombs in public places to create panic among the public. The Army has requested the public to be watchful for any suspicious items and report to same to the nearest police station or Army post if there is any. Meanwhile, the Army said that some unscrupulous elements were roaming around with certificates purportedly issued by the Army authorities. These persons are involved in carrying out nefarious activities including extortion and smuggling. These persons are also using the forged certificates to evade police apprehension. The release said that no such certificate had been issued by the Army authorities and requested the public that if any person was found to be using such certificates, the matter should be brought to the notice of the Army or the police. On the other hand, troops of the 21 Mountain Division detected an improvised explosive device (IED) planted under a culvert on the National Highway-37 a few kms. ahead of Panitola in Tinsukia district. The explosive was recovered just a day after the visit of the Chief Minister to the area. The IED was defused by the engineers of the Army and the explosives were destroyed by the bomb disposal squad.
