Arunachal Governor’s report ‘misleading’: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come down heavily on Arunachal Governor Arvind Dave for his ‘misleading report’ on the crippled law-and-order situation in the Arunachal’s Tirap and Changlang districts during the last Assembly and Parliamentary elections, and demanded a factual report from the Governor. "The Governor has failed to assess the situation in those two districts before the Assembly elections held last year and gave a clean chit to Mithi and his colleagues, apart from misleading the Election Commission, Centre and the President on the basis of which the election was held," P. B. Acharya, BJP national secretary said.

"Why immediately after three months of the elections the same Governor and State Government should request the Centre to invoke Disturbed Areas Act in these two districts when the law-and-order situation was slipping out of their hands," he questioned while holding both Mithi and Dave responsible for the serious law-and-order problem created by the militants in Tirap and Changlang districts.

"This means that, there is complete chaos in these districts," Mr. Acharya, who is also the incharge of the North-Eastern border states, pointed out. He alleged that Mithi failed to prevent his own colleagues from taking the help from the insurgents at the time of elections. "One of the ruling party MLAs from Tirap sought rebels help to ensure a berth in Mithi cabinet which had created a ‘civil war’ like situation in that area," he said adding, "earlier these districts were under the influence of the NSCN(Khaplang) and now both the factions are trying to establish their supremacy. He opined that such a situation could have been averted, had the Governor submitted an actual report to the Centre and Election Commission and if timely action was taken.

The BJP has trained its guns on the Governor such a misleading report because of which all political parties except Congress (I), which is reportedly having nexus with the NSCN (K) faction, could not participate in the last Assembly. "Dave did this being hands in gloves with Mithi for his  own vested reasons," he alleged.
Substantiating his allegation against the Governor, Acharya further asked "why had he accompanied the Chief Minister to Delhi with a begging bowl" to finalise  the plan allocation and other related financial matters by taking advantage of his position in the then Government in Delhi several times.

Raising doubts over Governor’s integrity, he asked the Centre to seek a full report of the latest situation of law-and-order situation in the State, especially extortion, kidnapping, murder, etc, in the State’s Tirap and Changlang districts
