NLFT insurgents ransack monastry

Insurgents of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) ransacked a Buddhist temple and took away Buddhist scriptures and the Buddha idol at Almara village in South Tripura district recently, police said.

A group of armed insurgents raided the temple at the tribal-dominated village in Sabroom sub-division and  took away musical instruments, besides idol and scriptures. The Baptist insurgents recently served notices in the hill areas that they would  take stern  action against the villagers if they performed any religious activity other than Christianity, the police said. Police   suspect that militants along with miscreants from across the border were involved in the crime. The ancient monastery is close to Bangladesh border. A search operation was on  to nab the criminals.

Meanwhile,  the ultras  shot dead one Joulushmani Jamatia  at Tuharchong village in the district on his  way to  attend a meeting of the hoda   ocra,’ social and religious head of  Jamatiya community. The ‘hoda ocra’ recently called upon the people of the Jamatiya community to resist the insurgents’ operation and save their own religion.
