Bishops clean chit to BJPWere Mr. Harkishan Surjeets recent statements charging the BJP with the attacks on Christians aimed at wooing away the Christians towards his party? Yes, it were, was what Dr. Yuhanon MarPhiloxinos, president of the Malabar Bishop Council, has said recently in Kozhikode, Kerala."BJP has nothing to do with the recent attacks on Christian missionaries in the country and by blaming Hindutva forces for the assaults, CPI-M is only trying to derive political advantage of the situation", added the Bishop in a letter to BJPs national executive member and state general secretary P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.
Mr. Pillai had earlier written to 21 Christian religious heads in the country to find out if his party was in anyway found involved in the recent attacks on the minority community, including Jhabua nun rape case.Bishop Dr. Yuhanon further said that none of the 24 accused mentioned in the chargesheet filed in the Jhabua rape case had any connections with the BJP.Charging CPI-Ms general secretary Surjeet Singh with adopting an "antagonist" approach towards the BJP, the Bishop said CPI-M leader should not have "malicious" intentions in dealing with such serious issues.
