Army mooting steps to recruit NE youth

The Army is contemplating to introduce few innovative steps to bring the North-Eastern youths to its fold. According to the Army sources, though it is looking forward to recruit youth from the region, it is not finding the right candidates. The Army recenly held recruitment rally in Shillong, Sonitpur, Nagaon and Mingaon. The Army sources revealed that they found that the North-Easterners did not want to go out of their states.

The Army feel that the State Governments should work out a way to exhort the local people to join the Army.

Besides, the sources feel that to ensure the entry of a good number of local people it is necessary to provide them with pre-recruitment training. The Army also feels that an interaction programme with the local technical schools would give the youth an idea of what opportunities await them in the armed forces. A training programme for candidates wanting to appear for the NDA and other such selection tests for making an entry into the Army at the officers’ level could be started by the North Eastern Council, the government or an NGO, on the line of Minerva Academy in Punjab which trains youth for the defence services, the sources feel.
