UNICEF to help NEC for child development UNICEF would be coordinating with the North Eastern Council (NEC) to tackle problems of children in the North-East and to ensure their conventional rights, UNICEF country representative Allan Court said recently. A ten point-action programme worked out by the States of the region at the recent ‘Shillong Declaration’ would be taken up by NEC on priority basis, Mr. Court said. Social Welfare Ministers of the north-eastern States are signatories of the declaration
and the ten-point action plan, he said. The main points of the action plan are health,
nutrition and education for the children and aimed at reduction of infant and maternal
mortality and eradication of child labour and non-attendances at school, he said. |
