Mithi for reduction in State’s share

Arunachal Chief Minister Mukut Mithi has urged the Centre to reduce the State's share in respect of all Centrally sponsored schemes to a uniform ten per cent to enable the Arunachal Pradesh to avail maximum benefit from them. In a memorandum submitted to the visiting sub-committee of Governors on Welfare Programme for Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Mr. Mithi said due to non-availability of funds with the State government it became difficult for them to provide matching share for such Centrally-sponsored schemes. "Ours is a resource-poor State as the vast natural resources have not yet been fully utilised," the memorandum said. Mr. Mithi also requested the committee to review the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, as the objective of the Act had to be combined with that of poverty reduction of the tribal population. "It effects our developmental interests adversely and more seriously than any other State as 82 per cent of our State area is under forest cover," Mr. Mithi pointed out.
