Manipur CM, Governor discuss boundary dispute with Nagaland

Manipur Chief Minister W. Nipamacha Singh has apprised the State Governor Ved Marwah about the boundary-related disputes with Nagaland over Tungjoy village in the Senapati district.

Sources said that the Chief Minister held discussions with the Governor on the dispute at Tungjoy where Nagaland Police personnel along with the villagers in Nagaland’s Phek district forcibly pushed out the residents of Tungjoy, a village on the Manipur’s side. Both the heads of the States also thoroughly discussed the present situation at Tungjoy and steps taken up by the State authority in this regard.

The Chief Minister revealed that the Tungjoy dispute concerned the issue of political boundary and village boundary. The village boundary falls in the Nagaland area where the State villagers carry out cultivation. The same applies vice-versa. He, however, made it clear that the dispute was settled down and no more tension developed thereafter. Tension mounted at Tungjoy following a land dispute between the villagers of Manipur and villagers of Nagaland. The dispute was reported to be resolved.

One police station was constructed at Khejo Khonoma in Nagaland bordering Manipur near Tungjoy. The villagers of the Tungjoy, however, said that while constructing the approach road the Nagaland police had encroached upon Manipur’s land. This was the bone of contention. Nagaland Chief Minister S. C. Jamir and Manipur Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha also had a telephonic talk on the issue. Mr. Singh is reported to have told his Nagaland counterpart that he was ready to extend all possible assistance to solve the issue. It is reported that the Nagaland Chief Minister has agreed to the suggestion. Mr. Jamir has also given the assurance that he will do whatever is necessary to bring about an amicable solution and that he will instruct concerned officials to rush to the disputed spot.

Meanwhile the people of Tungjoy village of Senapati district in Manipur are not happy with the way the State authorities have handled their about hundred-year-old land dispute with the villagers of Khezhakenoma in Nagaland.
